Batch Cooking: Memorial Day BBQ Edition

Batch Cooking 5-25-13

Happy Memorial Day to all of you living in the US!

I had an itch to BBQ this weekend, even though sadly it’s not a 3 day long weekend here in Canada (we had ours last weekend – but it seems like ages ago). Unfortunately for me, I live in a condo, which mean no BBQ. And being paleo, that’s a problem – I’d grill meat most days if I could. But, I wouldn’t let that deter me. I drove over an hour to get to a friend’s BBQ, and made it worth my while by grilling all of my food for the week. We grilled up a storm :)

On the menu this week:

Lunch: You can’t have a BBQ without throwing at least one steak on the grill, so it’ll be salad with steak for my lunch: steak + mango + avocado + arugula + lettuce + olive oil.

BBQ burgers

Dinner: Burgers + grilled pineapple + cheese + onions + mushrooms + lettuce and a side of Asian coleslaw.

BBQ chicken wings

Snacks: Chicken wings (whiskey + maple syrup) and beef liver kebabs. Those were actually supposed to be beef heart kebabs, but I accidentally pulled the wrong organ from the freezer (they’re unlabeled and cut up, so it’s kind of like a box of chocolates… you never know which organ you’ll get) :P I was surprised at how tasty the liver kebabs turned out! I might have to make them again, though I still really want to try the heart kebabs.

I may have slightly overdosed on protein last night :) But it was all so delicious. I’ll have to do this again sometime soon. What are you grilling up this weekend?

You need to use your skillz in the food business world to let people taste how varied and yummy a paleo menu can be :) Perhaps getting started in some sort of Primal/Paleo catering services … do you think there would be a market for that up there?

Hey Aaron, thanks for the encouragement! It would definitely be cool to be involved in the food industry in some capacity.. And I agree with you – people hear “paleo” and freak out because they can’t have bread and pasta.. but there’s so much more to food than carbs!

Grilling out is the best! The thing that I love most is that my grill is open 24 hours a day! :)
