Primal Eats Vancouver: Beaucoup Bakery & Café

Beaucoup Bakery Macaron Frais

Beaucoup Bakery occupies a small but lovely spot in the South Granville area. The high ceilings, large windows, and pretty details like potted orchids and floral mugs that match the branding create a bright, welcoming space. There are a few small tables out front, and limited seating inside – so be prepared to either wait or take your treats to go, as they do get quite busy, especially on weekends.

Beaucoup Bakery, as the name implies, specializes in French baked goods – they are especially well known for their croissants. The only gluten-free offering was a lovely Raspberry Pistachio Macaron Frais: fresh raspberries and a pistachio filling sandwiched between to halves of a giant macaron. The presentation was quite pretty. The raspberry and pistachio flavours complemented each other nicely. The pistachio filling inside is a little unappealing in color, but a) I’m glad they don’t try to change that with dyes and b) it’s very tasty regardless.

Their café mocha was delicious – light, creamy, and not too sweet. If you order a large beverage, you’ll get to enjoy it in one of their pretty floral mugs.

Service was friendly and welcoming, and the owner, Jackie Ellis, can often be seen working behind the counters. It was a surprisingly long wait for the coffee, but they were pretty busy.

Beaucoup Bakery & Café is a welcome addition to the Vancouver café and bakery scene. I hope they introduce more gluten-free items soon!
