As far as local dining chains go, I’d rank them in the following order: Cactus Club, Joey’s, Earl’s, Brown’s, Moxie’s, and Milestone’s. But I’m not overly attached to that order, either. Except for Cactus Club being at the top, which I think most people would agree with, now that Chef Feenie is behind the wheel. I don’t go out of my way to eat at chains – there’s usually some reason/story to it, with the exception of Cactus Club perhaps. And this time around I was meeting a friend at Metrotown and we needed a place to eat. The main criteria was: 1) patio and 2) decent food. There’s a surprising dearth of quality food options in the Metrotown area. And that’s one of the situations in which I seek out chains. The patio at Earl’s looked the most promising, so off we went.
I was pleasantly surprised. The patio was awesome. Not only was all the greenery pretty to look at, but along with the glass it did a great job of buffering out the traffic noise. I completely forgot that I was eating alongside busy Kingsway.
The service was great – friendly and efficient. And the food was good also – we each had their feature champagne berry salad with grilled chicken. It was a little pricey for what it was, but considering the nice patio and lack of other options, I was fine with it.
If you need somewhere to eat in the Metrotown area, I’d definitely recommend checking out Earl’s – it’s only a couple of blocks away.
