What’s in Your Cart? (Feb. 12/12)

February 12, 2012

Do you ever peek into other people’s shopping carts, or gawk at their purchases at the check-out? Do you then try to figure out what kind of diet, if any, they’re on? Followed perhaps by a quick glance at the shopper to evaluate the success of that diet?

Somehow I doubt I’m the only one ;) In which case, you might find my weekly shopping loot interesting.

*These groceries are for 1 week, 2 people, and exclude previously purchased meat that may be used from the freezer. Not pictured above: chicken purchased elsewhere.

How does that feed 2 people!? I alone seem to consume more vegetables than that. I have been trying to cut down on grocery bills so any help would be appreciated!

Hi Lauren. Well, you can see what I made from all that here :P I already had some carrots in the fridge, which aren’t shown..

Help for cutting down on grocery bills? Eat less vegetables?? ;) I’m only half-kidding. I’m actually trying to up my vegetable intake a little. But in these meals, there was lots of cabbage and cauliflower, some sauerkraut, peas, carrots, onions, scallions..

I think the best way to keep grocery bills down is to a) cook and b) plan. And they pretty much go hand in hand, especially when batch cooking, which I’m a huge fan of. That and stocking up when things are on sale, or being flexible with subbing stuff when the ingredients you need aren’t on sale.
